I don't keep much at my sewing table {though, I'll be honest that it is often cluttered with WIPs}, but rather like a clear space for quilting. I like having a lamp at one end so I have some added light while sewing, especially in the evenings.
Next to my machine I always have a pincushion {I rotate them around, so that way none is ever the collector of all the pins}, and a little paper mache box {I have plans to cover it with fabric}. I use the lid as a thread catcher and the body to hold the things I need at my machine. While there is room in the machine's storage box to hold these things, I find that it is irritating to have to move my project in order to change a needle, or put in a full bobbin, this way those things are at my fingertips! Do you have anything you particularly like near your sewing table?
Gee, I envy you! How neat it is for your sewing table. You should look at mine, it is a mess. Well, once again, I guess it is time for me to do some clean-up and re-organization, before it is too late!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
I love the idea of using a container for sewing machine bits and pieces. Mine just lurk in disorder around my sewing machine. One day I'm going to lose something important - but not if I find myself a nice container!
ReplyDeleteI love IKEA! We've furnished our house from many trips there over the years (though the closest is 2 hours away). I like to keep different colors of thread handy and some kind of a reusable shopping bag for collecting fabric scraps and other trash (like empty spools). I guess it's the same thing as a trash can, but prettier.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the perfect sewing table!
ReplyDeleteMy sewing table is actually one of those ones that has the drop down inside for the machine. I got it at a yard sale for practically nothing. It holds all the essentials. All my bobbins, pins, scissors, and thread. It's all in there. It's great because I'm a lazy sewer and if I had to get up a lot, I'd probably never finish anything!
ReplyDeleteI use a lid to a blank CD container to hold my threads and I keep one on my cutting table to hold all those little pieces. I also keep a Tic Tac container velcroed to my sewing machine and I put broken/old needles in there so they can be discarded safely. Finally, I like having a cup of coffee very closse LOL
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love IKEA so much that my entire office/craft room is from that store. LOL
ReplyDeleteCover your paper mache box with the fabulous how to instructions Blackbird Designs blog has !! And order the glue they suggest -- works like a charm! Results are fabulous . . . you may want to get additional boxes -- you will get hooked!
