I've been going back and forth on ideas for the extra embroideries for some time now, but I have finally decided on an idea.
To be honest, it actually wasn't really mine. I had originally thought of doing some simple stitches in the solid spaces, but then I started to worry about running out of thread {I'm working with the same amount of thread as the thread kits, to make sure everyone has enough!}.
Then I began thinking coordinating motifs would be super cute, and I saw Wendy's Flickr photo. It has taken me a while to get around to it, but, here are my first extras, little dragonflies:
I just used a larger hoop to get the fabric a little tight without having to place it over any embroideries.
I'm rather happy with how it turned out. I will be trying to post some more extras on the alternating weeks of the main blocks. But, if you're still deciding what you want to do, know that you can expect things like butterflies, flower clusters, vines, and that sort of thing!
Are you planning embroideries in your solid pieces {if you have them}? If so, what are your thoughts?
How pretty is this! Love the design. Thanks for sharing! Huhs
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of little motifs (my thought was to use some element in the main design and repeat it in the solids).
ReplyDeleteI am using a lot of thread - and I think I am going to order a second packet of thread for this project just to be sure I don't run out!
I love your little butterflies and they would e perfect in some of my fabrics that appear to be solids. Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeleteI like the added butterflies. They look so nice!

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking wordy....pithy sayings about gardens...ex, "Time began in a garden."
ReplyDeleteI love your little dragonflies! Since I'm new at this, I'm going to just stick with doing the center block. That's already a challenge for me!
ReplyDeleteI like it! It ties the 2 concepts together :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so behind on this quilt. The extra embroidery is so lovely. I will have to hurry and catch up so I can try it too.
