Little Charmer Wallet {tutorial}

Today I am guest posting at Quilter in the Gap with this cute little wallet tutorial.  It is the first wallet I've ever made, but I think it turned out cute {and I dug into a little of my Central Park by Kate Spain stash!}!  So, head over and check it out, and while you're there, peek around, Rhonda has a super neat Finish-A-Long going on right now.

So, if you have UFOs floating around your sewing room, this is a great chance to finish them up and win some cool prizes too!  Enjoy!

Edit to Add:  You can now find the tutorial here too!

Kindle Keyborad Book-Style Cover

I cannot seem to stop making these cute little Kindle covers {you can find my tutorial here}!  Here's my latest one, for the Kindle Keyboard version {I made this for Danny as a swap for a scarf she made me, photos soon!}.

I don't actually own a Kindle Keyboard, so I made a little cardboard one to make sure the elastics were in the correct position {I hope! okay, the bottom elastics were too small...I forgot to take into consideration the thickness and rounded corners of the Kindle...so if you make one, make the bottom elastics larger like the top!}.  I used some 2 1/2" squares from my Just Wing It jelly roll and a little Kona Azure.

I used Jelly Roll strips for the inside too {with Kona Azure on the reverse} to give it a cute, patchwork look.

And, I couldn't resist a few embroidery details either!  The butterflies are from the Garden Steps :: Block Two, and the flowers are a smaller version of Embroidery 101 :: Block One.  Because most of the Just Wing It prints are so large, I think they add a nice touch.

If you want to make one, the finished size is 11 3/4" x 8 3/8" {open}, and I used the same method as my Kindle Cover tutorial {see my note above about elastic!}.

Notepad Cover {Moda Sliced Contest}

Have you seen the Sliced Competition over at the Moda Bake Shop?  Well, it seems like a Project Runway for quilters/sewists, and I love those kind of competitions...so I decided to whip up an entry and audition {by whip up, I mean spend the better part of a week on!}.  So, here you have it, my new Kindle Fire cover {find the tutorial here}.

I made it with a charm pack, some batting, elastic, Velcro, the required buckle, and a little plastic canvas {my favorite affordable reinforcement!}.  The best part is, this can be adjusted to any size to fit any tablet you might own {or a paper notebook or planner too!}.

On the inside you'll fine a sleeve for the canvas, as well as a couple pockets for bushiness cards or whatever you might want to store, and my Kindle Fire is held in place by some sturdy elastics.

I've based the design off the Kindle 2 Cover I made a few years ago.  Even out of the sold listings, I still get questions about it, so it seems like a popular item! Hopefully it is what the judges are looking for.  Now, I have a baby cooing at me from the swing...back to mommy work!

P.S. I'm linking up to !

Shopaholic: Clutterbags

I've done quite a bit of shopping on Etsy in the last few months, for both baby things and things for me, so I thought it was about time I shared some of my purchases with you. I wanted to start with something I received as a gift first. My mom bought me this adorable clutch from Clutterbags to carry my stuff in the diaper bag with. For some reason I really like orange and aqua right now {maybe because it is such a great combination and matches my Cotton Blossoms bag...}, so this orange bag was perfect. It is actually larger than I had imagined, and makes the perfect mini purse. I'm now eying a few different fabrics, they're just so lovely!

Shopaholic: Oktak

Eyeglass Case

Tired of lugging around the heavy hard case that came with my sunglasses, and tired of cramming them into my purse and risking scratching, I finally splurged on a soft {stylish} case.  I chose a lovely one from Oktak made with Joel Dewberry's new Deer Valley line of fabric in a lovely aqua.  It is well made and has a little cushion to protect my glasses.  Not in the market for an eyeglass case?  Fortunately, Oktak has everything from little pouches to purses and totes, all in a variety of beautiful fabrics.  Right now, Oktak is on vacation, but offering a discount too, making it even more worth the wait!

Shopaholic: Mixmasha

Jade Cluster- button brooch

We happened upon Mixmasha's shop while reading the Lillyella blog and couldn't resist these beautiful creations!  Buttons and brooches, what a perfect combination. Not only is the concept beautiful, but the workmanship is too.  Carefully constructed and simple, elegant packing, would make these lovely brooches a perfect gift for you or someone else.  Take a peek, maybe heart, or make a purchase from this lovely Australian!

Shopaholic: My Southern Lace

I have a love of pins and brooches.  My sister pinned a beaded flower on my jean jacket once, and I've worn a pin on my jackets and blazers ever since.  Last fall I found a great green tweed blazer, but it needed something unique.  I was browsing Etsy when I stumbled upon My Southern Lace's shop and this unique pin:

It is one of my favorite posessions.  I get lots of compliments on it because it really is so unique.  Neither I nor anyone else has seen anything quite like it.  Although you may not find a pin just like this one, Cherylynn has some other great vintage jewelry in her shop like these:

Shopaholic: Buzzie Lizzie

This little pouch was an excellent find.  Not only is the fabric beautiful, but the placement is excellent as well.  The bag is a great size, it is small enough to put in a bag or large purse, but large enough to hold a variety of make-up items, including brushes, to take with you every day.  Because honestly, it is too cute to leave at home.  It also works for holding small supplies, like knitting needles, measuring tape, and little scissors.  If this little bag isn't to your liking, there are several other great fabrics and sizes available from Bizzie Lizzie. In addition to a great product, this shop offered great service as well, with the bag arriving quickly and well packaged.
