Stash Project: A New Beginning

We're going to try something a little bit new this month for our stash projects and see how it goes.  On the first of the month you'll find this post with a linky at the bottom for you to link up to your projects made from your stash.  The linky will be open the entire month, allowing you to link up at any time.  When linking up, please only link to specific blog posts or Flickr photos {all other links will be deleted}.

Your post should include either the Stash Project button or a link back to the linky you are participating in.  Also, we'd love to know what fabrics you are using from your stash.

If you're linking up we'd appreciate it if you visit at least one other.  At the start of every month we'll also feature a few of the projects from the previous month.

Stash Project: Thoughts (& a winner)

Well, I don't have a stash project for December.  I was going to show Norah's stocking...but, well, it is still a bunch of pieces {my mom actually put part of it together, so at least it has a start}.  Good thing one-month-olds don't realize they don't have a stocking at Christmas.  But, I know some of you might still be finishing up projects, so we'd still love to see your projects.

But, in addition to looking at your wonderful December finishes, I'd like to know, is this a feature you'd like to see continued next year?  Or would you like me to start a new monthly feature {and if so, do you have suggestions?}?  I really look forward to {and value} your input!

Stash Project: Sweetness Quilt

Well, I've been stashing this Bliss fabric for a while {and I had a couple charm packs too!} and now the time has finally come to make a quilt out of it {read: baby girl is dues any day now!}.  So, here's my version of "Sweet Pea" by Camille Roskelley from her book Simplify {I decided to call mine "Sweetness"}.  While I had seen the pattern in the book, it was actually the mini version by Kristyne of Pretty by Hand {my mom is really the one who saw it, but when she showed me I knew I needed to make one}.

The original pattern was 42" square, but I wanted mine to be a little longer, so I added a row of squares and a ruffle.  I really can't ever seem to just follow a pattern straight through, but I love that this is a unique version!  Now I'm just anxious to see a little girl on it!

And, since I'm always forgetting to post the winners of the previous month's Stash Project, I've decided to just post it with the new project.  So, congratulations to Heather who posted about the Camera Filter Case she made for her dad!

It's actually a great idea for a handmade guy gift too!  I think my dad would like one for his SD cards, and my husband would like a similar one for his hard drive.

Stash Project: Mini Test Quilt

I've been doing a bit of little girl quilting, and I thought it might be a good idea to test out the pattern before cutting up all my fabric.  The pattern is "Sweet Pea" from Simplify with Camille Roskelley, and found it easy enough with a cute result.  I used the remnants of a Mary Engelbreit charm pack from my first mug rug and bound it with Kona Black.  It was a fun little project that took no time at all.  Now I just need to finish the larger quilt!

Stash Project Remembered (and a few other things)

I know I keep saying this, but this last month really seems to have gotten away from me somehow.  I have a small pile of winnings that still need to be mailed off, and I've finally drawn a winner from the August Stash Project, so I wanted to announce that too!

Congrats to Suz of Patchwork N Play who shared her Swirling, Twirling Whirlygig with us {hmm, I think I need one of those Lil' Twister rulers...I keep seeing them around and loving the result!}.

Stash Project: Doll Quilt Swap 11

Here is my finished Doll Quilt for the Flickr Swap.  I used some leftover charm squares of Whimsy that I cut down, and then added some little embroidery designs to the solid squares and rectangles.  I think it turned out really sweet.  Here's a closeup of some of the embroideries:

These are lighter colors than my swap partner usually uses, but they seem to be something she would like, so I'm hoping I guessed right!  But, I really love it so much too...so I'm thinking I may have to make a larger version out of this:

Stash Project: Organization!

Here is a photo of my fabric stash in its early days {sorry for the small size, I've also upgraded my camera since then!}. This was way back at our home in New York, when I first set up my sewing room.  A lot has changed since then.  Initially I had just acquired more fabric, but this move I decided to make some big changes.  I had seen those mini fabric bolts here and here. { I also did a little web search, and this is one of the earliest blog posts I found about them: here.}  So, I decided to join the fun and try them out, the result looks something like this:

That's all I'm going to show for now though, because there is a special post planned to show my entire new sewing area {and I'm not quite done anyway}.  But, the Stash Project of the Month post wouldn't be complete without an opportunity to link up and win a surprise yard of fabric {I'll do my best to make it suit the winner!} and the Lizzy bag sewing pattern.  Since I'm bending the rules for myself this month, I'll do the same for you.  You can either link up a blog post about something you made from your stash, or you can blog about your stash organization and link that up!  Can't wait to see what you've been working on.

Stash Project: June

I know this is a little late, but better late than never, right?  I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the Stash Project and Stitch & Quilt Along go hand in hand {okay, I admit, I designed it that way...}, but, you remember that gorgeous fabric my mom is using for her project?  Well, it's stash fabric.  We've had the bundle for quite a while, and it's finally becoming a beautiful quilt.

Here's her first finished block, don't you love it?  Maybe I'm a little bit biased, but I tell you, my mom is the one who started my embroidery obsession, so I guess it's fitting that I love her embroidery!  I'm kind of wishing I was making my quilt out of the same fabric, maybe I can talk her into trading **wink**!

Stash Project: Charming Sherbet Pips

My mom and I ordered some charm packs of Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey for Moda a while ago. Then, when I decided to make Silas a neck pillow for our travels using the puppy print, my mom decided to make a quilt for him to go with it.

But when she started to lay out the fabric, she realized how much pink was in the fabric line...so, the quilt switched directions a bit...now it's mine too!



It turned out just darling, and I really love having a quilt made by my mom {and she was so sweet to make it for us!}. It will definitely get a lot of love when we live all the way on the other side of the country. I think quilts are the next best thing to hugs.



And the little boy loves it so much too...it was difficult to even get photos.

Stash Project: Pure Baby Quilt

Nope, we didn't forget about the stash project for April, we're just running a little behind.  Fortunately, my mom made this adorable baby quilt out of Pure by Sweetwater for Moda for the new baby of one of my dad's co-workers.



She customized it with a "W" for Wyatt, on the quilt and on a matching onesie.



And, as usual, someone else had to give the quilt a test run {literally} during the photo shoot.



We had both stashed some Pure, and after seeing how this adorable quilt turned out, I am thinking I might need to use mine too! The simple subway tile pattern sure showcases the prints nicely.

March Stash Project Winner

Ruffle Love

Fabric from left: Whimsey, Cotton Blossoms, Bliss, Verna, & Bliss

So, here are our finished clutches, modeled after the Noodlehead Gathered Clutch Tutorial.  We'd seen them popping up around the web and had to give them a try.  While we used the same method, we actually adjusted teh size a bit, since we want to use it more as a mini purse than just a wallet {perfect addition to the diaper bag!}.  So, here are my adjusted measurements for a finished size of 9" wide and  6 1/2" tall.

• Body: 7 1/2" x 14"
• Lining: 7 1/2" x 10"
• Pockets: 7 1/2" x 10"

We used the same measurements for the remaining pieces, but moved the band up from the center a little bit.

My mom also thought to add those cute little flowers from The Quilted Fish, and then we added a yo-yo to the center.  We also put the gathers on the back because they're so cute.  Instead of a divider, we put bigger inside pockets on both sides of the lining, but didn't sew them into the bottom seam {instead we folded them in half and sewed them right sides together, and sewed them into the side seams}.

We enjoyed making them so much, that what started as three soon turned into five!  We are really happy with how they turned out {we may be making some more soon}.  We hope you love them as much as we do {and maybe consider making some of your own too}.  The best part too was that we only used fabric from our stashes {there's still time to link up your stash project too}!

Stash Project: Ruffled Clutches

Well, for obvious reasons, I'm a little bit behind this month. So, for today, all I have is a photo of a stash project in progress. My mom and I are making a few ruffle clutches, and I'll update later this week with the finishes!  What have you been making out of your stash this month?
