Favorite Things :: Some Basics

Since I do a lot of sewing and quilting, I thought I'd share some of the things I like to have on hand for a variety of projects.  These are the kind of things I stock up on when I have a coupon to a fabric or quilt shop.

First, I like to have a couple yards of some neutral fabrics: Moda Bella Solids in Snow and Gray are pictured here.  This is perfect for making pinwheels or other blocks with neutral accents, and instead of trying to buy an exact amount, I just purchase a couple yards and then they're available for whatever project I dream up.

Next, some white cotton flannel {I always pre-wash it} for quilted projects {like pillows or bags} because it is thinner than batting, produces less lint, and still gives that crinkly look.

Also, I like to have a few different interfacing options: a medium/heavy, fusible fleece, insulated interfacing, and some Heat N Bond.  This way I'm ready for applique, bags, potholders, accessories, and other projects.

And finally, my newest favorite, a Moda Bella Solids color card {I've ordered a Kona color card too!}:

This way I won't have any problem choosing a coordinating solid, as I'm trying to incorporate them into my quilting and sewing more.  What kinds of things do you keep on hand for your projects?

  1. I have a pile of interfacing too! =) Light and heavy fusible, then fusible fleece. =) I also have wonder-under and stitch and tear for my embroidery. =) Glad I'm not the only one stocked up! =)

  2. Well first you can't help looking at that color card and thinking.. oooh ahhhhh. What I keep on hand.. some neutral fabrics.. I'm a beginner, so a whie on white.. and some creams.. I just pick up some in like 4 or 6 yards when I have a coupon.. or when I can't help myself.. (a sale, or a special print that catches my eye.. )
