Mug Rug 4
I finished my mug rug for the swap, and I've already mailed it, before the very last mailing day...what has gotten in to me? I used some of my Finca Perle Cotton to embroider a rainbow and my partner's name {but, if you click on the image you'll see it without the name because I don't want to spoil the swap!}. I really tried something a little new this time around, and I'm happy with the results! Oh, and you might notice that only two of the fabrics are from the same line {Central Park}, and the rest are from my stash {Bliss, Fandango, Meadowsweet, and DS Quilts}.
I backed my pieced top with fusible fleece, and then embroidered through it, and it worked great. I then added a layer of batting as well, which gave it a nice fluffiness. I've always thought my mug rugs were too flat in the past, so I think this will be my new method. It also held the embroidery nicely, without any wrinkles between stitches. I added a little row of hand quilting around the outer edge, another first.
All in all, I am glad my partner was a little picky in her likes, it really caused me to stretch, and I'm so glad I did. I doubt I'm the only one in a quilting box, what are you trying to stretch yourself to try?
