It's Okay to Improvise

Questions? Missed a post? Find the index here.

Below is a picture of my Block Two before I washed away the blue marker.  I thought I'd share it because you may have noticed that my embroidery doesn't always exactly match the drawings.  This is because I have to do the drawing before I embroider, but sometimes my ideas evolve a bit, or change based on the colors I have chosen.

My reason for writing this, to remind you that it's okay to improvise!  While I think these designs are great, some things change a little.  So, don't be afraid to make your own little alterations while working on your blocks, it is really neat to see everyone's individual interpretations.

  1. I also wanted to point out a tip for some of the other members of the quilt along. When I was tracing my design on my block, I noticed it was a smidge too big. So instead of reducing the size, I did it in pieces. I pinned down the design and drew off the smallest and largest butterflies. Then I removed the pins, repositioned the picture, and drew off the midsized butterfly. Everything fits and it no one would know that it's not the same as yours!

  2. Thank you for permission...I couldn't see to trace mine through this last time...so my tracing isn't the same. =) Yay for artistic license! =)
