Fabric folding

My cabinet with most of my fabric now looks like this!

It needs to be more organized so I can see what I have, therefore, it will be used more effectively.

My plan is to fold and then arrange by color. This is another method of storage that I learned about from Jennie. I saw her fabric stored like this on a shelf at her little cottage house and loved it. She has sold me once again on becoming more organized!! She even ordered these comic boards from Amazon for me, I so appreciate her and her willingness to help me in this process.

You can find out more about these here. I am so excited to see my fabric in a new way. Maybe, just maybe, I will need to do more shopping. We'll see!!!

I will show you once I get all my fabric folded and arranged, hopefully soon!

  1. Too cool, I am going to have to check out those boards! I am not all that organized, but am really freaky about my fabric. It is all folded and stored by color, I imagine the boards would make it even easier! Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see your pic's!

  2. I am in the process of switching my fabric to this boards. I am finding fabric I don't like, fabric I love again, and needs in my stash. What great fun (and work) this is turning out to be.

FYI I used to store mine by color but have found that I am storing some of them by line, and others by color.

  3. I have some of my fabric on boards. But, if it is less than a yard it is stored folded.

  4. OH my.. I was just looking for some of these great boards... Thanks for sharing. I saw something similar with tabs on it, but I think these may be a bit more affordable. THANK YOU for posting!! Looking forward to seeing your new organized space :)

  5. I'm sure it will be lovely when it's organized! I have my fabric in boxes....because I don't have space. They fit under the bunk bed in the room where I sew. Then I have to remove them elsewhere. It's not the greatest for knowing what you have, but it works for space. =) Thanks for sharing...can't wait to see your organization! =)

  6. I went to comic boards back in August 2010 when I started quilting again after a 10 year hiatus. I pulled out my fabric and needed a better way to organize it. Read more here http://cyarnell.blogspot.com/2010/08/fabric-stash-dilema.html

  7. Check out In Color Order's tutorial on fabric folding. I have been going through mine and if I have a fairly large piece I leave it pretty big but otherwise fold like Jeni says and have all the thick folded edges facing out. I am getting mine organized by colors and they are looking fabulous. She shows you how to make them all end up the same size so they stack well. I used to wrap mine around left over fabric boards that the quilt shop gave me and some of us girls cut in half, but it was way too much work and not good for small pieces like fat quarters. Plus, without the boards, more fabric fits in my cabinet. Here is Jeni's link: http://incolororder.blogspot.com/2011/01/art-of-choosing-folding.html

  8. I use those same boards for my fabric (actually ordered another packet last week!) I love the way the fabric looks ont he self and I find that I am more inclined to "Shop at home first". Have fun, the effort will be well worth it when you are all finished :o)

  14. I did this with my fabric awhile back and I LOVE how everything turned out. Not only is it organized, I am able to put together fabric combos I hadn't previously thought of just because I can see everything. You will love the change. :)

  15. Can't wait to see your after photos!

I was thinking of using comic boards or just cardboard. Thanks so much for stopping by And Sew We Craft and giving me the link to this. I love you fabrics.
