We took a quick trip to Washington a couple weeks back, and while we were vacationing, I picked up a few more fabrics to add to my stash. I felt kind of lucky to stumble on these {mostly} out of print fabrics {Sunkissed by Sweetwater, DS Quilts by Denyse Schmidt, and Bliss by Bonnie & Camille}:
I tried to choose more than just blue fabrics {as I seem to have an overwhelming majority of blues!}, and I was sort of successful! But my stash still seems a bit lopsided:
Now I'm on the hunt for some great yellows, oranges, and purples {in my defense, purples are really hard to find, but I love them!}!
What kind of things do you look for when you're fabric shopping?
I have used a lot of subdued colors in the past..thing Moda 3 Sisters (any of their lines). I now find that I am craving bright, bold colors. My stash is woefully full of greens, browns, pinks and a certain shade of red. Lately I have picked up lime green, orange, purple and turquoise. I feel like I am living on the edge!
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty stash you have. they would all look so pretty in a scrap quilt. I used to buy what hit my eye but now I just buy what I need. I have mostly greens because I use them a lot for applique.
ReplyDeleteYou were lucky! I love those Sunkissed Fabrics but have none at this point. Boo... lol
ReplyDeleteI too have a lot of blues and I love em. Thanks to a great deal last year, my purples are plentiful also. For me, it's oranges and browns. I seem to keep away from those like the plague and only pick them up when I have a specific need. I'm trying to be more open-minded about those ones these days.
I look for fabric that would make a nice dress, or if I have certain quilts I'm making I look for fabric that would match. I really like calicos for quilts.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jennie, your stash is gorgeous! I'm not really able to be a stash builder at this point, but I love window shopping for Japanese prints, pretty designer fabrics, and anything in red! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy stash, makes me smile... I buy what I need and if anything catches my eye and I really like it, it generally comes home with me :O) If I have enough money at the time that is...:O)
ReplyDeleteNice finds :)
ReplyDeleteAnd your stash is so neat !!
Since I like to make quilts with lots of different fabric/collections, I usually buy basics - prints with one color + white because they are the easiest to match together.
I've bought a few purples lately for a commissioned quilt and Patricia Bravo has some really nice ones !
I need to add more blues to my stash! And I love purple too!
ReplyDeleteyour stash looks soooo delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, lovely colors and designs you have. I`m starting now sewing, but my favorite color are blue and pink, and the prints, I like flowers.

Beautiful-ness! I put together a rainbow type quilt top this morning and found that the purples were hard to come by in my stash too. But it was a great adventure hunting through the scraps!
ReplyDeleteI think that my stash falls more the other way and is lacking in true blues and purples. How lucky are you to have found that Bliss fabric. I have been trying to get my hands on some and stock my Bliss collection :o)
ReplyDeleteWhy don't we have good quilt shops here? I NEVER find goodies like this.
ReplyDeleteThere are stuff I'm always drawn to when buying fabric and text prints are most definitely high on the list. I have next to no purple or yellow in my stash so I always look out for purple too!
ReplyDeleteMy stash is low on purple, orange and yellow, too, so I look for those colors, but I am also notoriously in the clearance room of any quilt shop. Last time I was in one, I cleared their clearance room of all the Nicey Jane and Bliss that they had. That was fun!
ReplyDeleteWashington State??? Thats where I am!
ReplyDeleteProbably mostly bright, and it is so funny whenever I go to a quilt shop I usually end up bringing home red! Who would have known! It must have rubbed off on me from my mom.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!! These are some of my favorite fabrics. Enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhere in WA did you find those beauties? Love your stash!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI store my fabric like your stash and one of the reasons is so I can see which colors I'm lacking in. I'm lopsided on blue too and purple is probably my smallest section. I love solids but I have to "force" myself to buy them over all the gorgeous prints so that's what I'm trying to stash more of right now.
Jennifer :)
What do I do? Look for the cheapest fabric going luv!
