I Read Slowly

Now, this wasn't always the case! Growing up I read so much that my dad used to say I ate books instead of reading them. Our small, local library was close enough to our house to ride my bike there, and I'd come home with my backpack full of books. I majored in Literature in college too, need I say more?

However, since graduation I haven't made much time for reading. Part of this is due to the fact that the bookstore shelves seem to be littered with novels that are not worth reading, and I've yet to find a reliable source for good books {think Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, C.S. Lewis...}. But every once-in-a-while I am tempted enough by a book to pick it up, and this was the case with The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  After about six months of reading, I have finally finished, and am glad I have.  So, if you're a reader and looking for something enjoyable, yet simple, I would recommend it.  It's a pretty quick read too, especially if you consider I read most of it while sitting in Starbucks on rainy Saturdays.  For the future though, I have a feeling my reading is going to look less like the above photo and more like this:

Regardless, I'm looking for suggestions for both types of books! {And no, I didn't make that quilt...it was a baby gift, but isn't it beautiful?!}

  1. Eric Carle fabric! I didn't know there was such a thing. What a gorgeous baby quilt! He's always been one of my favorite childrens' author & illustrators...must say I'm having a little quilt envy now :)

  2. Jennie: I will have to check that book out. I was a huge fan of the library, our library was a house converted into a library. My sister and I would walk up there and we would check out books and read all summer long. One of our favorite series was little house on the prairie.. So sad that the library is not such a big deal for kids anymore. I read to both my children, they loved Good night moon, a classic. Beautiful quilt!
