Little Notions (Giveaway)

Comments closed, winner will be announced shortly.

To celebrate my post being featured this week, we thought we'd hold a little giveaway of a few notions!  My mom made up this darling pincushion and needlebook {out of Kate Spain's Central Park}, and I added the pins and needles, and together we've got a lovely little giveaway.

To enter all you need to do is leave a little comment about what unique notion you use or like most and why {feel free to add a storage tip too!}.  Here's mine:

I really love a small crochet hook for turning points, especially in a tight corner.  The blunt edge is perfect for not poking through the corners, but the small size is perfect to really get a nice point.  I keep things like this in a little tin basket by my ironing board, so it is within easy reach!

You have until next Wednesday, January 19th at midnight, and will draw the winners Thursday!  If you're a follower {or if you become one}, you may leave a second comment telling us for another chance to win {in order to get two chances, you must leave two comments!}.  Please make sure your e-mail address is in your blogger profile or that you leave it in your comment {to avoid spam, you may want to write your e-mail address like this: jennie(at)cloverandviolet(dot)com}.  If your number is drawn to win and your e-mail address is not available, we will have to draw again.  Good luck!

  1. My seam ripper, I use it for everything, it's small and sharp and I can use it for so many things. For storage I have a 5 gal. Home Depot Bucket with a tool storage insert which works perfect to hold all my sewing tools, rotary cutters, scissors, etc. It has so many pockets and a handle to tote it around.

  3. I don't know if they are considered a notion or not, but I love my little 4inch sewing scissors! They make life so much easier.

As of being organized, I keep most of my sewing and scrapbooking supplies in an over the door shoe holder - the plastic see-thru kind.

  5. Fun giveaway! I love my thread catcher (hangs below my sewing machine) that has a velcro-on pin cushion. It's the best, and best of all, I received it in a craft swap. :)

  6. Not that unique, but I love my little seam ripper. It says Heirloom Quality on it, and the metal part says JAPAN. It has a rubberized handle, and the point is quite sharp and small - great for little stitches. :) Now if only I wasn't using it sooo often!

    Love the pincushion!

  7. Instead of pulling out an Iron and Ironing Board i use my hair straightener to make a crease on pants to mark where i am going to hem them! Storage tip... I use old shoe boxes for storing my thread needles other needs for sewing... not only is it cute but then i don't have to buy more storage containers... not to mention they fit in the top of your closet all stacked perfectly (for someone with little space and a small budget)

  8. What a cute giveaway! My favorite notion (which I ended up giving away, so now I need to get my own) are my embroidery floss bobbins made out of wood cut in the shape of dachshunds. Practical AND adorable! Although not standardized sizes.. ;)

  10. My sister gave me a suction "thing" for keeping hands away from rotary cutters ... I am in love! This gadget helps me avoid ruler slippage when cutting.

    Happy quilting!

  26. I love a bodkin! I have one with a rounded end which is perfect for smoothing along inside seams and corners when turning something small. It also has a great end for threading ribbon through a tube hem. Here's a hint: tie a long thin scrap of fabric securely to the hole end. When you need to thread ribbon tie it too the scrap. I find it holds better then when you try to tie it to the bodkin directly.

  28. Ummm, I know this will sound really strange, but...

...one of my favorite notions is my piccolo tuning rod. Seriously. It's great for poking corners, and for threading, turning, finger-pressing...yeah. And it was free, unless you count the cost of the piccolo itself--which was ungodly! Are you sorry you asked now?

  32. The most unique notion I use is an orange stick as my stiletto at the sewing machine. The unique storage item I use are baby wipe containers and top of a plastic coffee can. I keep small fabric tidbits or notions in the baby wipes. The top is used to corral my hand sewing notions next to my easy chair. Thanks for this giveaway. I love the coordinating pj outfits for your little girl.

  37. I have one of those little pin cushion things that you wear on your wrist. I am so used to wearing in when I'm sewing that if I do some small project and forget to use it I will actually poke myself in the wrist. Too funny.

  38. I don't think this is unique and possibly not a notion, but I like to apply the film on the back of my rotary ruler to keep it from slipping.

  39. I hand stitch my hexagons. I do paper piecing, and I put 2 paper punched holes in the paper pieces. When it is time to remove the paper pieces, I use a crochet hook and insert it into the hole, and pop it right out.

  46. I use my seam ripper daily. I do a lot of sewing and embroidery, and a seam ripper is just so handy when you make little mistakes. As for storage, I love the IKEA cardboard DVD boxes. They fit all kinds of supplies.

I make alot of use of my seam ripper as well as many others have said. I also like my beeswax thing (I forget the proper name) that keeps my thread from getting tangled when I am hand stitching. And I really love my fabric crayon!

  61. I am a follower. My second tip is regarding my bobbin storage. My filled bobbins love to unravel and tangle and arm wrestle with each other so I use those teeny tiny assorted colored hair bands to place around each one. You can still see the thread color and they keep their arms to themselves. I bought a pack of a gazillion at the local dollar store.

  62. My favorite sewing notion is my marking vinyl for my rulers. We purchased a sunscreen vinyl windshield screen for the car for our toddler. Well, the stuff never liked to stick to the windows. Either too cold or too hot for it to play nice and stick, so I cut it into useful sized pieces. Now it's repurposed into markings for my rulers or to mark my 1/4 inch seam on the bed of my sewing machine. Sticks like a champ :)
