A Wonky Star

In the past, I may have said I don't really get the whole wonky thing...I like even, regular, orderly things {however, if you saw my sewing area right now, you probably wouldn't believe that...there is so much fabric piled on the cutting table that I've been reduced to using my travel mat on the floor...but that is beside the point}.

That being said, my bee block this month was a wonky star, and I love it {tutorial from here}!  So, I guess I am entitled to change my mind, right?  In spite of the blue look, the background is actually Kona Coal and then I used a variety of fabrics from my stash {note the center square, it is a scrap of Coquette by Chez Moi for Moda that is left from the Moda Bake Shop project I'm working on - let me tell you, I adore this line!}.

I've asked this before, I think, but do you participate in any quilting bees?  Do you have a favorite block you've made?

  1. I love your wonky block. In fact, that's what we made for the Bee I just joined! And I love the block we made......posted on my blog!

  3. I like it ;) :) I like it when the pattern is a little bit different. It adds more character :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)

  4. I didn't think I was really the wonky type either and changed my mind the very same way you did. Now, I pretty much love them!

  5. No, I don't do quilting bees or anything. I'm more of a fly by the seat of my pants and hope it turns out kind of sewer. But I love and admire people who can quilt or sew day after day, making amazing and beautiful things and not getting frustrated, fed up, or bored (like me!). :-)

  6. I haven't participated in any bees yet, mostly because I'm always feeling behind on projects and don't want to let other women down if I'm late. I do have a favorite block, though: the sawtooth star block that I used in my latest quilt finish (you can see it in my most recent blog post on my sewing blog - I'd include a link but my iPod is being stubborn). I'd never made stars before and I really fell in love with thm in that project.

  8. Hi Jennie. :0)
Your block looks fabulous. I am like you. Orderly. :0) But there are times you may not be able to tell. :0) I am in my very first bee and I just love it!! It has been fun creating what the ladies request. :0)

  9. I learned to quilt making 9patches in the 90s and then various star blocks. Now I like swaps best where there is the suggestion of a block element, maybe set fabric and not a set pattern.

  10. I'm so glad I got to introduce you to a new love! I love the block you made and congrats on the wonky-ness of it, I struggle not to slip into 'uniform' with mine, thank goodness others in the bee don't!
