Some Pebbling

I took a break of sewing for deadlines this weekend and did a bit of sewing for me instead.  My checkbook has been sporting the same cover for about three years...so it was time for a replacement.  I made it the same way I've made them in the past {this was my first tutorial...from 2009!}, because it is simple and quick. I used batting in it instead of interfacing this time.

I decided to try my hand at some pebble quilting too, although far from perfect, I think it looks pretty cool, and was so easy too.  I think small projects are the perfect place to try new things, because, with limited sewing time, I don't ever really practice anything.

Now, if only I'd realized before quilting that my very favorite print was upside down...oops!  You can see a couple more pictures here and here, just to get an idea of the whole thing.

We also made a trip to the beach this weekend.  Silas absolutely loves splashing in the water as the waves roll in.  It made this weekend kind of feel like a vacation!

What is your favorite way to take a break or do you have an favorite quilting methods I should try?

  1. Hi Jennie! Love the beach pic...so sweet!
I love to take a break from "deadline" sewing by doing the exact same thing! Making little projects so I have a chance to try out new techniques and color combos. I would love to try pebbling. I was a failure at stippling... too many broken needles and thread bunching ARGH! I didn't even notice your fabric was upside down :)

  2. I don't have any tips but I am going to give your pebbling a try! I love to relax by the water... I live in the mountains, so being lakeside is me favorite. At least until I can get to the beach!

  7. HI Jennie :) :)
Oh, that checkbook cover looks cute. I should make one of those for me. It's much prettier than the boring plastic one from the bank :) :)

OH, I LOVE the ocean...I can see why Silas loves it so much :) :)

Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather ;)
