A Holiday Giveaway & Discount

It's Labor Day in the US, and since we are off celebrating, we thought we'd spread a little bit of the celebration your way!

We're giving away one of Jennie's Design Challenge Bundles!  It was so much fun creating a project with these fabrics and we thought one of you might like to play with them too {you can find the Bedside Trio here & here, but the options are endless!}.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment letting us know your favorite thing about Labor Day, or if you're not in the US, then a favorite thing about a holiday unique to your country!  The giveaway closes Monday, September 10, at 11:59pm and we'll draw a random winner.

In the meantime, we're also offering a special discount to our shop:

Just use the code LABORDAY2012 to get 20% off your order {please note, this discount is only available in our shop, not Etsy or any other retailer}.

Have a great day!

  1. Here in Portugal we have a very special holiday that celebrates a military revolution made without guns. Instead the soldiers placed carnations (the flower) in the guns and they took down the gorvernment that was on the power at that time (very similar to a dictatorship). We still celebrate that day and, of course, the symbol of the day are the carnations!

  2. My favorite public holiday in Australia would have to be Australia day. It's in the summer so it's the perfect day for beaches and BBQs (all the things we are famous for).
Thanks for the chance to win.
I hope you are enjoying your labor day.

  3. Thank you for the chance to win. Over here in Australia, we do have Labour Day but not until October. Christmas means the most to me, followed by Easter, but the most reversed (secular) holiday would be Anzac Day. I think you call this Veteran's Day in the US. Such a special day to pause a rember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. May we never forget.

  8. A holiday that we in New Zealand share with Australia is Anzac Day, celebrated on 25th April to commemorate the Anzac troops landing in Turkey. I hope one day to be in Gallipoli for the Anzac Day Dawn Service, maybe in 2015 for the 100th Anniversary. Now wouldn't THAT be amazing!

  62. Now that the children are all gone, Labor Day kind of goes unnoticed in our family, unless someone is able to come home for the long weekend. Then we like to go to our favorite picnic spot, the center of the river bordering our country from Canada. The river is usually low this time of year and reveals the river bed. A four wheel drive gets us over the rocky terrain, then a bit of wading in the freezing water and tada, build a fire and roast hot dots. FUn fun!

This means most places of interest open their doors free of charge, also some private residences and estates open their homes up for the weekend to the public. We always make a point of going to see one or two places that we would not normally see. This weekend we went up Kilwinning Abbey Tower and visited the Masonic Mother Lodge in Kilwinning. Both were very intersting and we had a great time. Love your giveaway.

  159. Here in Canada, we celebrate Labour day too! Yes, we have a "u" in it, just like we do for colour, honour, neighbour.......
my favourite (ohhh there's another one!) thing about Labour Day is the feeling of nostalgia I get from it. I always think back to my first days of school, which were always tinged with a bit of sadness that summer was ending, but also with excitement for the upcoming year!

  164. This year my favourite thing about Labour Day (here in Canada - same day) was the two nights of beautiful fireworks and just the atmosphere in Saskatoon. Both evenings were beautiful and warm and the river bank parks (in Saskatoon) were FULL of thousands of happy people there to see the fireworks. Even though there were so many people, it didn't feel crowded but you still felt a part of something much larger than yourself. It was LOVELY!!

  168. June in Australia we celebrate H.M. the Queen birthday by having a public holiday on a Monday mid-way through the month. So? Well, Britain does not have a public holiday for the Queen.
January 26th is Australia day when England claimed Australia or Invasion Day for the Indigenous people - the Aborigines.

  169. Hi!
I like what Labor Day is sleeping! Much wake up early to go to work and that day and take the opportunity to get up a little later, being with family and eating out of home. In Spain de Labor Day is the first day of May.

Thanks for let me participate in this great giveaway.

  170. I miss celebrating Labor Day! For me, it signifies the end of summer--a big BBQ, last day at the neighborhood pool, watermelon, corn on the cob, etc. The smell is of sunscreen lotion and the sound is water splashing and cicadas singing in the trees. I used to dread it when I was a kid since it meant school started the next day.

  175. For me, Labor Say marks the seasonal transition into fall, which is a wonderful season here in NC with (generally) cooler temps, clear brisk air, amazing colors, and the promise of abundant harvests. It seems to be a second spring of sorts with the earth bursting forth.
This holiday is also a low key one, more about family & relaxing than about preparation & gifts.
Thanks for a chance to win!

  191. I love the fact that there is a National Holiday that celebrate the ordinary working people of the US. Of course, it goes much deeper than that but that is the crux of it. But I have to be honest and admit that even though I am retired now, I remember just enjoying having a day off to spend with hubby and our kids. It was easy and didn't cost much except gas in the car to pack a picnic lunch and go to a park or up to a daytime campground in the mountains that are just a 20 minute drive from our home. *sigh*...those were good times and we made many wonderful memories. Thanks so much for a chance to win in this wonderful giveaway. Hugs...

  196. We celebrate Labour Day as well in Canada (notice we spell it differently - a leftover from our British days). My favourite thing about it is that it represents a new year for me - after the heat of August and with the approaching crispness of Fall it inspires me to take a fresh approach to everything!
