Stashing :: Basket of Bliss

Maybe I'm a little late in the game, but I've been stashing up a little bit of Bliss...I found it on sale at Hancocks of Paducah {check here, there's still some left!}.  I had a couple charm packs already, so I'm planning a cute quilt {we'll see how long that takes}.  Although I love getting bits and pieces of the newest fabrics, I don't usually stash until it goes on sale.  Maybe because my project list is so long that I don't usually get to the new stuff until it's about to become the old stuff!

What do you do?  Do you buy fabric when it's hot off the press?  Or do you wait for sales?

  1. I'm like you, I usually wait until it is on sale unless I have an immediate need for a project.

  2. We would be great shopping buddies! I too wait for the sales. If it's sold out, well it wasn't meant to be. Every once in a while I see a design that I will buy at regular price.

  3. I don't usually buy fabric when it's new unless it's one of those 'must haves' - which are becoming more and more lately.

  4. Nice haul, at a good price! I will almost always buy fabric I like at a good price, but I won't buy full price unless I need it like that day.

  6. With four kids I HAVE to be thrifty. Here is a sneaky tip: SHEETS! Check out any discount retailer (T.J Max, Marshalls, ETC.) look in the clearance section and you can find some amazing fabric in the form of sheets:) Lot's of yardage and fabulous prints. One year I made three Easter dresses from one queen size sheet for practically nothing:) However, when it comes to Anna Maria Horner I will stalk online for sales and then buy as much as I can possibly afford.

  7. I used to buy tons of fabric, but when I moved twice in two years, I got rid of a lot of it because I wasn't sewing as much. Now I try to buy only what I need when I need it (sad, I know). I just don't have the room in this craft space.

    And for Greta, I used sheets as the backing on quilts.

  9. I try to shop sales...my budget demands it. Somehow the kids' clothing comes first. haha!!! I love Bliss, but still haven't purchased any myself...maybe.

  10. I have to shop sales. It's just a fact of life. Honestly, though, does it matter if the line of fabric is this year's or last year's? Beautiful fabric is beautiful fabric, no matter when it was introduced; and do we all put away last year's quilts or bags when the new fabric lines come out? I certainly don't! So here's to the smart ones, who have our budgets and our priorities well in hand AND have great fabrics, to boot!
