A Trucks Emergency

Last night, instead of working on all the stitching I'm behind on...I made this to the sound of a whining toddler saying "mama up, mama truck!" because he wanted the fabric so badly:

This is a super easy, french seam pillowcase.  I used 1/2 yard of fabric {Ten Little Things by Jenn Ski for Moda} plus a little Kona Lime {I had intended to order Moda Bella Leaf, but hadn't decided how much I would need, so I waited, Kona Lime was what I had on hand}, and the whole thing took only about half an hour {is this something you'd like a tutorial for?  Or are there plenty of pillowcase tutorials out there?}.  But how could I resist this cuteness?

Cute!

What have I learned from this?  Do not show a two-year-old fabric you have no intention of giving to him straight out of the package...   He then insisted on sleeping with the pillow, or at least, falling asleep with it, as I had no intention of letting him sleep on unwashed fabric!

Twin Quilt Fabric

I was also excited to get the fabric I'm collecting for his quilt. This is the new stash {I already had the blue dots on the end from a local quilt shop}, to go with the fabrics I already had {plus a bit more in the scraps bin!}:

As you can see, I've got lots of green, so I need to start focusing on aquas, gold/yellows, and grays...more fabric shopping is in order!

  5. I Love it! My son would love it too. And I'd love a tutorial. There are so many out there I don't know which to pick...One from you would be great because I "know" who you are and would already be more confident trying it out.

  8. Very cute I have two 5 year old grandson's who would love the trucks. I have done pillow cases but not with french seams. All the fabrics for the quilt are so nice and bright will look forward to seeing it.

  9. Hi Jennie,

I say I would LOVE a French seam pillowcase tutorial. I'm sure there are others out there, but I don't follow those blogs...I follow yours..and you make amazing things with a sewing machine, fabric and thread :) :) :) I think the pillowcase you made for your little boy turned out really cute :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :) :) :)

  10. How cute that he loved it so much though! I can never show Karina anything unless it's for her. However, if I tell her before she sees something that it is not for her, then she is usually okay. Sometimes she will just ask to see it and then give it back. She's pretty cute about it. I have made her several pillowcases (none as cute as this with the solid part there) and she'll ask for her Cars or ladybugs or whatever. But I would still like to see how you did it with the french seam thing.

  17. That is soo cute! I would love a pillowcase tutorial! I use a pattern that is good but it leaves the seams exposed. I like the way yours shows more of the accent color at the top.
