My new Sewing Machine Cover

With a pack of charm squares, plus a half hexagon template, a little more fabric and I have a new sewing machine cover that I love!

Cut and sewn into rows

The rows sewn together

Two borders added on both sides

I decided to use a pieced hexagon top that I had made a while ago to make a cover for my sewing machine.  With a little more fabric for two borders, ties, binding,  backing and batting it went together easily and quickly. I chose to use free motion quilting, I am out of practice so it was nice to get in a little on a smaller project like this.
If you go  here to Randi's blog, ihavetosay,  you can see her tutorial, that is where I initially found the idea!

This is the way it looks all sewn, quilted, ties sewn in place and bound.

It will cover this sewing machine.

Front, after being washed and dried. Love the crinkled look.

Back

I followed the tutorial mostly, with a few modifications, and measurements to fit my machine.

I originally made this for my other sewing machine, except after it was washed and dried, it was a tighter fit than I wanted. I thought I had allowed for shrinkage but it was not quite enough. I guess that means I will have to make another one!

It was fun and easy to make. Maybe you have an unfinished patchwork piece that you could use to make into a sewing machine cover!

  1. So Cute! I've just started free motion machine quilting and for my first project I made a roll up travel changing pad - this project (sized appropriately) would make the cutest changing pad! I just love the hexagons.

  15. So sweet, I love Bonnie & Camille's fabric lines, Vintage Modern is probably my favorite followed closely by Ruby and Marmalade!

Also love that half hexie template, much quicker than English paper piecing!!

  20. Ooh beautiful cover. I have plans to make the baby tumbler machine cover for my MIL and was going to do it for her quilt along actually. Sadly, things beyond my control happened and I've not been able to get it started yet. I love hexies though so yours really is another I love so much.
