A Vacation

Earlier this Summer, my husband, son and I went on a little vacation to Maine. This was my husband and my third visit and not our last!! We absolutely love it there. It was our son's first visit and it was a favorite for him too!

Loved this Lighthouse in Rockland, as it was so cloudy and misty on this morning and the sailboat out in the distance was so pretty.

This lighthouse was seen from the shore of the Portland  lighthouse. I love this picture because of the blue sky, yet it was also a little hazy. In the distance, more sailboats can be seen!

These are just three of the Lighthouses we saw and photographed. This is Cape Elizabeth East, one of the twins.  I love the scroll work on the trim of this house.  Some of the days we were there were cloudy and a little rainy, but that did not stop us.

This photo is for our grandson, Silas. He is mesmerized with all things fire trucks, hats and sirens.
Many mornings while I was visiting my daughter and her family, I was awaken to him making his siren sound. I loved it so much!!

And....while in Maine, one must go to quilt shops. I think I visited about four shops this time. At Alewives Fabrics they were preparing for a special visit from Denyse Schmidt, sadly I was not going to be in Maine while she was there debuting her new fabric line "Chicopee", I did get a peak at it in person. Very pretty indeed!

This last picture was a must for me, oh how I love dresden's and when I saw it, I just had to take a picture!

We had a wonderful time in Maine, we have decided to go back again and explore a little more of this beautiful State. Next time on the agenda is a Lighthouse tour and we would really love to rent a cabin and  do a little more relaxing. Our son's favorite part of the trip were the Lobster rolls we enjoyed in Wiscasset.  I am looking forward to new memories each time we visit.

I have a lot of sewing to do, so I better say good-bye for now and sew, sew, sew! Next time I am planning on showing some progress from my sewing room!

Did you visit someplace this Summer you would like to share? We really enjoy reading your comments and getting to know all of you!!

  1. This looks like a heavenly vacation spot! We took our annual trip from Southern California to southern Arizona in July to see my husband's parents. Eight hours in the car with three little girls age 5 and under -- yikes! It was a great trip after all, but needless to say, the scenery was quite the opposite of your trip... :)

  2. So beautiful! We have made it as far as Boston but Maine is on the top of my list of summer places to visit. We did our annual trip to San Antonio and we are planning a fall trip to Disneyland. We love to travel... especially the flying for free part. ;)

  3. I would love to visit Maine someday. It reminds me of the movie Spitfire Grill and a few Steven King movies. I have only visited as far north as Washington D.C. and Virginia.

  5. A place I would love to visit, one day. Love the dresden sign. I passed through Quilty, Ireland many years ago. Pouring rain. I vowed that one day I shall go back and explore Quilty!

  6. Hi, I live in maine, born here and will die here. But you know something, If you keep pn the interstate, there is so much more buty above where the light houses are. We up here live in two different Mains, all the people who come here, is missing so much by staying down on the coast. The Penobscot river runs behind my house, I see so many wild birds, including Canadin Geese, Four pairs of mateing Eagels who fly so low over my house because he just caught a big salmon, and has a hard time getting any hight. You should see them when they are fishing. This is just a little of the country up here that you are missing. I get upset that everyone thinks Maine stops at the coast, Just a Tad bit of Maine in me I guess. Gerry. Guyie@midmaine.com Have a Happy Day.

    1. I deleted my previous comment - it sounded like an advert and it wasn't meant to. I love that you have shared your travels with us. I like to learn about new places and Maine looks lovely. I love lighthouses and I have even designed a couple of lighthouse patterns. A friend is currently staying in one for free in Norway, for a whole month, in exchange for helping with the redecoration (inside - not out!!). Thanks again.
