Swap Mail

Over the weekend I received not one, but two, of the swaps I have signed up for.  First, I received these lovely aqua potholders {and some fun fabrics} from anna_levengood, I am kind of afraid to let my husband use them in my kitchen since my current potholders are all stained... For now I'll just be enjoying them as decorations, which is an equally good use!

And second, I received this adorable Mug Rug {and tea time goodies} from Molly (snowturtles)!  Are you sensing a theme here...I {heart} aqua, green, gray, and patchwork, and have already put this sweet mug rug to use next to my sewing machine.  I'm thinking I need to make something with a chevron pattern now...

Okay, next on the list, Scrappy Pincushion Swap...I've got to get busy since the deadline is approaching.  Happy sewing!

P.S. I apologize if you visited the blog or shop yesterday only to find the site down...I forgot to renew our domain...yikes...sorry about that!

One Down

I have finally finished my potholders for the Potholder Pass {and they are going in the mail today!}.  As I said before, I had a difficult time getting excited about brown, but I actually love how these turned out {I want to keep them}!  I made two different styles because I thought it would be more fun.

Potholder Pass 6 - Finished

However, the pinwheels are definitely my favorite.  So much so, that I am planning to make something kind of similar for my living room {if I could just finish up my other projects.  I also included a little something else in the package, but thought I'd leave it out of my photos until my partner receives it, that way there is some surprise!  Oh, and if you're interested, round 7 of the Potholder Pass is going to start up early next month {I think} - the theme is not square.  That should be interesting and fun!

Making Progress

I know I'm a little late in the game, but I really love swapping!  I think one of the best things about it is creating things for someone when they have no idea you are.  In fact, it's almost like a repeat of Christmas, except with perfect strangers.  But, those strangers are people who may end up being great friends, because you have shared interests {the swap hosts - mama's - as they're called - carefully match each pair of swappers, so you really do have similarities}.  Above is the embroidery I'm working on for my mug rug, it will say "...you know you haven't had enough coffee until you can thread a sewing machine while it's running" {a quote by Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon}.

And here are my monotone potholders.  I think the browns are turning out pretty cute.  I haven't decided how to finish them, and am debating an applique on the other side.  Since I have a couple of weeks before they need to be mailed, I have time to think of it.  I'm still brainstorming ideas for the Doll Quilt Swap...

Fabric Decisions

I recently signed up for a few new swaps. The first was the Potholder Pass, and the theme is Monotone. I was really excited to get my partner info, until I discovered that the color my partner picked was...brown!  Okay, let me be honest, I was super bummed.  I dug around in my stash and came up with a few browns, but nothing that seemed very exciting.  Then, it occurred to me: Pure by Sweetwater would be perfect!  I had some, that I've been thinking of making a quilt for my living room with, so I broke it out.

Once I got it out and started planning, I got excited, what other color has a built-in neutral?  I've got a few pieces sewn up, but I'll wait to show that until I get a little further.  So, I hope this is the kind of brown my partner was hoping for.

Now, on to the Doll Quilt Swap {I can hardly believe I got in!}...I'm a little torn because every fabric I seem to think might be perfect my partner, she seems to have already used.  So, my first good idea is this mix of Sandi Henderson fabric.  I think it's cute and fresh looking, perfect for spring.  I don't really have an idea what I will make with it, but at least fabric is a start!
